A man died in the last hours after being fatally stabbed in the middle of the street in the city of Santiago de Cuba, according to journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada on social media.

The victim was a young man named Eliecer, nicknamed "El Moro," who was killed with a sharp weapon on Madre Vieja Street No. 130, between Aguilera and Enramada, a few blocks from the police station known as "La motorizada."

A resident in the area specified that the aggressor—whose identity has not been disclosed—"was passing through," and had been drinking with the Moro hours before the incident.

It was a police officer who was in the area who arrested the murderer, who—according to the cited source—tried to attack the officer, who allegedly used pepper spray to defend himself.

The reasons behind the bloodshed that resulted in the victim receiving three fatal stab wounds, one in the eye, another in the neck, and the last in the lung, have not been disclosed.

Images released by Mayeta Labrada showed several people gathered at the scene of the murder.

Neighbors in the area have confirmed that the victim lost a lot of blood, and a resident was urging to finish cleaning the area because there was a bad smell.

In the comments section of the post, dozens of people who knew the victim expressed shock over the crime and concern about a feared resurgence of violence reports in Cuba after a slight decrease in social media complaints in recent weeks.

"My God, that boy's brother was killed years ago, and now he ends up dead too. My condolences to his sister 'La Mora' and family. RIP," wrote a netizen amid dozens of condolence messages.

Until the close of this report, no other details about the incident have emerged.

The wave of violence that has plagued the country in recent months has taken on significant dimensions in Santiago de Cuba, where even the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) has admitted it as a problem requiring special attention.

At the end of January, a senior official from the Ministry of the Interior in that province acknowledged, during a meeting with residents of the Abel Santamaría neighborhood (El Salao), the presence of criminal gangs dedicated to "implementing terror" among the population.

On that occasion, the authorities asked for a vote of confidence from those affected and sent a message to the criminals, warning them that they will be rigorously punished for the acts they have committed.
